When volatile chemicals in contaminated soil or groundwater migrate into the indoor air of buildings, vapor intrusion occurs. Health risks such as respiratory problems and headaches can occur and long-term exposure can increase the risk of developing cancer.

This increased danger to human health lead to the 2008 introduction of ASTM’s new vapor intrusion standard (E2600-22), “Standard Practice for the Assessment of Vapor Intrusion into Structures on Property involved in Real Estate Transactions.”

The awareness level of vapor intrusion issues remains relatively low, but concerns continue to emerge as the risks become better understood. Please call EPS Environmental Services, Inc. to learn more about the underlying health risks and real estate liability issues associated with the newest and most significant environmental issue that has arisen in recent years.
